This is a picture of my "Dream house" This lesson was taught as a geometric/art project for 4th graders and I think this was a wonderful idea. The concepts of what a house is and what negative space is. we drew out our house with a ruler and a pencil then traced it in permanent marker. Once we finished we needed to cut out the negative space around our house and glue it on a sheet of construction paper. I would add angles and protractors to the lesson to make drawings more accurate.
As an extension activity I would have students plan out an aerial view of their dream front yard as well. Then students could glue down their house on the inside top part of a pizza box and their front yard down on the bottom so when the box is opened it looks like a house and yard.
